Job Title:  Controls/Innovation Manager

This position will lead a team of PLC Programmers, Electrical and Innovation Engineers throughout North America and will help drive the commercialization of the offerings along with the sales and marketing team. The position requires technical excellence in controls, programming, automation, software development and an understanding of Augmented Reality concepts.  This means that they are versed on the latest related technology and offerings from the primary suppliers in the industry. Additionally, it means that this person can drive and promote the technologies to the benefit of our customers and the company alike.

This is a working manager role and will be responsible for setting the direction for the group, introducing innovative technology, and promoting the technology offerings.  This person in this role will also be responsible for directing their team to support the install base of the equipment in the field.  This will require the associate to be knowledgeable with programming automation and controls systems involving PLC’s, HMI’s, Servo drives and Network systems. Supporting their team with assisting the field service technicians in troubleshooting, programming & configuration of the controls required to operate the equipment in the field. Travel to customer sites will occasionally be required. This job requires that the applicant live in the region and have a regular presence in the U.S. Headquarters (min of 3 days/week).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following (other duties may be assigned):

  • Provide outstanding leadership to their function, to both their people and the business challenges.This will be critical for functional success and is purposely listed as #1.
  • Create functional goals and objectives and departmental strategy.
  • Coordinate activities of the Controls and Innovation team while providing support, guidance, and training. Monitor progress of activities and keep the team on track. Will actively participate in the Performance Management process, completing 1:1’s, quarterly priority alignment, and writing impactful annual reviews.
  • Monitor performance, conduct evaluations, and provide up-to-date summary of client issues and timeline for resolution to VP. Escalate issues as needed.
  • Develop and actively manage departmental budgets.
  • Leading functional continuous improvement initiatives that bring greater financial value, quality, and customer satisfaction (processes, KPI development/monitoring, etc.).
  • Ability to research and learn new software/ hardware for implementation.
  • Be adept in working with others to resolve issues. Using emotional intelligence, they must be a self- starter and comfortable working with people in troubleshooting and problem-solving situations.
  • Provide excellent communication and customer service skills. Must be team oriented and have a “Can Do” approach to all challenges, with an emphasis on quality.

Time Utilization: This position will require travel up to 20% of the time for technical guidance and customer interaction.  Schedule needs to be flexible to accommodate both direct report and customer needs.

Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in a Technical Field (Engineering, Computer Science, etc.).  A minimum of 10 years’ experience in field service, manufacturing, software development or related industry is preferred.  Prior Supervisory and leadership experience managing a team is required.

Language Ability:
Excellent interpersonal skills required to effectively work with Company and Client personnel. Ability to read and interpret documents including mechanical blueprints and electrical schematics.

Math Ability:
Mathematics and statistics literacy

Reasoning Ability:
Ability to assess and define problems, interpret instruction and act accordingly.

Computer Skills:
MS Office Suite/Windows platform, Rockwell Automation, Software Development/Programming Tools, PTC Vuforia/Thingworx familiarity a plus.

Certificates and Licenses:
Current valid driver’s license and the ability to obtain a passport for international travel.

Proper use of safety devices as required for the safe operation of all machinery, tools and equipment.
