Title:  Associate Project Manager

Summary:  Manage all aspects of capital packaging equipment projects for the entire project life cycle.  Keeps projects on track by applying PM and technical product knowledge, utilizing your initiative and interpersonal skills, exercising good judgment, tracking details and following PMO and HUP processes (Project Management Playbook).  Projects are typically orders for packaging systems of moderate complexity and sell for $500K – $1.5M.  May also manage smaller tooling orders or inventory machine orders. 

Time Utilization:
Normal business hours are 8:30am to 5:00pm. Schedule needs to be flexible to accommodate project meetings, installations, and customer schedules. Domestic and international travel up to 20% of time. This is a hybrid position with three days on site and 2 days remote after initial training. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following (other duties may be assigned):

  1. Manage each of the phases of capital equipment packaging projects including definition, engineering, verification, transportation, installation, and closure.  Track information and materials flows. Manage project through the entire project life-cycle from ensuring client and project success.
  2. Primary point of contact with the customer for project communications. Liaise with suppliers in Europe and internal employees involved in the project (e.g., sales, product managers, technical service etc.). Diplomacy exercised in cultural differences between teams in North America and Europe.
  3. Coordinate for the resolution of a range of mechanical, electrical, controls, packaging and/or safety technical questions that may arise during project execution and testing.  You are not expected to be the expert.  Instead, you will coordinate with HUP and supplier subject matter experts to resolve concerns.
  4. Lead project kick-off and facilitate engineering review meetings with vendors and customers.
  5. Develop project plans and timelines, taking into account lead times into project timeline and determine potential risks.
  6. Manage procurement of equipment and any changes throughout the project life cycle.
  7. Work with management to ensure sufficient resources are estimated and allocated to each project.
  8. Coordinate with team members for timely completion of assigned tasks/responsibilities.
  9. Ensure quality (HUP and customer specifications are met), on-time delivery and expenses are on-budget.
  10. Maintain alignment between customer requirements, machine capabilities and equipment ordered.
  11. Coordinates for and leads Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs), which may be virtual or at our vendors in Europe.
  12. Tracks shipment and coordinates to ensure successful installation and start-up.
  13. When needed, visits customer sites to coordinate during installation, witness Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) and resolve issues.
  14. Contribute actively to project management process development.
  15. Stay current on new equipment technologies for ULMA and Mondini lines and travel to Spain and Italy respectively for additional training and equipment familiarization.
  16. Maintain confidentiality of critical or competitive information.
  17. Be receptive to on-going coaching and training to further develop professional skill set.

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, project management, science, management, or equivalent experience. Zero to three years of project management experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Ability:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as proposals, technical descriptions and specifications, legal documents, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to read and write routine reports, prepare effective presentations and other correspondence and to speak effectively before groups of customers or associates of the organization.

Reasoning Ability:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of word processing software; spreadsheet software, presentation software, internet software and design software. The individual must be proficient in the use of the MS Office Suite, Windows platform, and MS Project. Experience with SolidWorks or AutoCAD as well as FileMaker Pro is a plus.

Math Ability:
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as fundamentals of geometry and trigonometry, probability, statistical inference.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.  Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as pricing structures, foreign exchange conversions.
