Automation - Secondary Packaging

Preparing your packaged products for shipment and retail

Secondary packaging protects the product’s primary packaging in-transit and may be the first thing a customer sees as a retail shelf presentation. Case formers, sealers and label applicators offer a faster, more accurate and reliable approach to manual efforts, which often result in sloppy/poorly placed tape or labels and are impacted by even simple things like employee absences.
.
Manual labor at this stage often requires substantial space for workstations and materials storage, whereas automated equipment at the end of your packaging line can actually reduce required warehouse space.
.
Secondary packaging automation emphasizes equipment flexibility and strong product control, and provides the ability to allow for quick and easy size changeovers of the packaging machinery.

Carton Forming

Carton Forming & Closing

Carton forming machines erect boxes to be filled with packaged product. Closing machines are suitable for closing the lid of erected and filled carton boxes, by means of hot melt or tuck in flap systems. The wide range includes inline or angular closing machines, mechanical or lugless type, suitable for closing box lids on one or three flaps. Usually supplied together with the forming machines to provide complete solutions, they are suitable for packing food products (ice creams, frozen food, snacks, dairy products, etc.) and non-food products (high-tech items, spare parts for cars, etc.).

Retail Cartoning

High-speed Retail Cartoning

Our range of horizontal cartoning machines (intermittent or continuous motion) pack products into boxes with automatic side loading and close lateral flaps by means of hot melt or tuck-in flap. Products can be loaded into the machine infeed manually by the operator or automatically by means of a mechanical or electronic synchronization unit. The synchronization unit picks the product from the production line and feeds the machine in feed tasks. Our horizontal cartoning machines are particularly used to package food products like frozen pizzas, cakes, cereals, rice, coffee packs, etc.

Case Packing

Top Load Case Packing

Vertical/Top Load

Vertical/top load case packing is the most common form of case packing. Products are simply placed into the container from the top. Typical top-loaded products can include glass bottles, cartons, flexible pouches, flow packs, bags and sachets.

Side Load Case Packing

Horizontal/Side Load

Horizontal/side load case packing is typically used for handling cartons or structured products and can be used for either low- or high-speed lines. Side load case packers are a great solution for small footprints, and can only handle a small product array.

Wrap-around Case Packing

Wrap-around

Wrap-around case packing uses precut flat sheets of corrugated blanks, with major and minor flaps sealed on the side, instead of the top. Less cardboard surface means this type of packing is typically cheaper, which improves inventory efficiency. Typically used for canned foods or beverages, wrap-around case packing can reach far higher speeds than traditional top or side load packing.

Bottom Load Case Packing

Bottom Loading

Bottom loading is a gentler alternative to a pick-and-place system. It is used typically for food applications with rectangular or lay flat cartons, delicate/sensitive products, dairy applications with gable-top cartons or gallon jugs, products with shrink wrap or transparent film on top, and industrial cans or bottles.
