Field Service Technician - Taunton, MA (2 Openings)

Title:  Field Service Technician (2 openings) 

Location:  Taunton, MA

Summary: The associate will use their mechanical/electrical background to troubleshoot/repair and install our machines in order to support our customer base. This support will consist of troubleshooting customer issues on-site and over the phone. They will also be responsible for conducting installations on various packaging equipment machines.  For example, tray sealers, fillers, dosers, form / fill/ seal equipment, case erecting, automatic loading, sleeving, cartoning, closing, flow wrap, shrink wrap, vertical and horizontal thermoforming machines.   Must have the ability and willingness to travel 60-70% of the time for technical support.  Schedule needs to be flexible to accommodate customer schedules.   This job requires that the applicant live in the posted State.  

Skill requirements:

Teamwork- Is able to work efficiently with others in the group and provide feedback to help the install. Able to work independently when needed. Mentors trainees and other Tech teammates.

Troubleshooting and Problem Solving- Able to research and independently troubleshoot mechanical and electrical product issues in the field and knows who to reach for assistance. Shares knowledge and experience with other Techs.

Business Acumen- Has a strong understanding of products and applications. Can actively promote preventive maintenance with customers as well as spare parts selection to support products. 

Customer Focus- Is able to lead smaller projects and acts as the site lead technician and provides direct feedback to customers on project status and any issues. 

Technical Skills- Has strong knowledge on Harpak-ULMA products and is able to troubleshoot most issues in the field. May assist other techs in learning products. Strives to improve current skill level. 

Decision Making- Capable of making higher level decisions in regard to install related issues that are electrical and mechanical in nature. Is able to make important decisions on small to midsize projects as a lead or as a member of an on-site team. 

Experience Level: 4 plus years 

Compensation:  Commensurate with previous experience

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following (other duties may be assigned): 

  1. The associate will use their mechanical/electrical background to learn our industry and machines in order to troubleshoot customer issues. 
  2. The associate will trouble-shoot mechanical/electrical issues with various packaging equipment machines.  For example, tray sealers, fillers, dosers,
    form/fill/seal equipment, case erecting, automatic loading, sleeving, cartoning, closing, flow wrap, shrink wrap, vertical and horizontal thermoforming.   
  3. Associate must be a self-starter and comfortable working with people in trouble-shooting and problem solving situations. 
  4. Must possess excellent communication and customer service skills. Must be team oriented and possess a strong commitment to quality.

Education/Experience:

High school diploma or GED required.  Technical schooling in electricity, electronics or equipment maintenance is required.  A minimum of 4 years experience in troubleshooting mechanical/electrical issues desired.  Prior industry-related experience would be a plus. 

Language Ability: 
The willingness and/or ability to read and interpret documents including mechanical blueprints and electrical schematics. 

Math Ability:  N/A

Reasoning Ability:
Ability to assess and define problems, interpret instruction and act accordingly.   

Computer Skills:  Must have familiarity with MS Office Suite and Windows platform. 

Certificates and Licenses:  Current valid driver’s license and valid passport and/or the ability to obtain a passport for travel.

Work is performed in a combination of shop/warehouse environments. Exposure to fluctuating hot and cold temperatures. Exposure to warehouse elements such as noise, dust, odors, fumes, oils.

The ability to lift and/or move up to 75 lbs.  Ability to sit for extended durations when traveling by car or airplane. Keen hearing and sight ability (close and distance vision) for detecting any abnormalities with the machines.  Proper use of safety devices as required for the safe operation of all machinery, tools and equipment.
